After injuries to Paulo Soares and Gustavo Rissi, Rochester has been thin on the back line. During the August break, Rochester found cover for Rissi with the signing of Michael Smith. Now, RNYFC has found its relief for Paulo Soares with the signing of Opi Edwards. Edwards is capable of playing anywhere on the right side, however, has been used more as a traditional Right-Wing Back throughout his career. Edwards recently spent time on trial at EFL League One side Cheltenham Town FC after his release from fellow League One club Forest Green. Edwards made four appearances during the 2020-2021 EFL Championship season for Bristol City, before splitting this past injury-plagued season between Forest Green and National League club Torquay United FC.
Analysis
Edwards should be back to fitness now after missing much of the past season due to a slew of injuries after training with Cheltenham Town FC's first team. Edwards has a good chance to play at RWB, with Rochester in desperate need of defenders ahead of the final three games of the regular season. Rochester currently sits in the final playoff spot ahead of Inter Miami II, and is likely to need to win out to reach the playoffs.
